950 Palladium alloy is an excellent metal for engagment rings. It's strength is only a little less than platinum but palladium is much easier to work with and currently less expensive. It is an excellent choice if you are interested in making your own engagement ring. Be forewarned: it has almost no name-recognition value to the public.

While most people have not heard of palladium used in jewelry, it is a component in high-quality white gold alloys. It's recent dramatic price-drop as a commodity has made it available in higher purity. If you want to design your own engagement ring, I encourage you to consider 950 Palladium.
